The dark, at times eerie and spooky, songs such as “Max B”, “Canal St” and “JD” provide the perfect canvas for Rocky to be lyrically outstanding. In fact, some of the A.L.L.A’s best moments are its darkest, moodiest ones. So the question is, can Rocky make an album that meets the standards set by $AP? In short, he not only meets them, but exceeds them.įrom the first listen, it’s clear that Rocky has adopted the more ambient, trippy feel that made $AP so great and built on it. So now, more than two years later, Rocky releases his second album At. Sonically, $AP was less original and not as brave, and lyrically, Rocky lacked depth and character. So when Rocky was gearing up to release his debut album, 2013’s $AP, expectations were high, expectations that were not met.
